Why do I need Blank-It?

It is a legal requirement for any installed onboard computer to comply with The Road Traffic (Vehicle Standards) Rules 2002 and the third edition Australian Design Rules and have that installation certified by an authorised Inspection Engineer.

Run the dotnetfx.exe file located on the install disk supplied or download it.

How do I activate Blank-IT?

After installation Blank-IT will need to be Activated.

This can be done automatically by having a internet connection and by starting the Blank-IT activation program.

  1. Go to Start > Programs > Blank.IT > Blank.ITActivation
  2. Select Get Unlock Key You will need to have Internet access to activate this software
  3. Or you can FAX or EMAIL with the following items
    1. Hardware Number
    2. Product Key
    3. Customer ID

How do I create a BIN file for Blank-IT to read?

Go to http//www.blank-it.com and log in via the Client Area.
Select the Create new BIN file and follow the steps. 
This file allows you to set Com Port exceptions so that BlankIT will not scan a Com Port with a Modem orGPS type device in it.  It will allow you to set the BlankIT to either Auto scan ports looking for the BlankIT cable or you can manually set the Port for it to monitor.  You can add programs to be allowed for use when BlankIT is active.  These must be approved by the local authorities E.g. Aid to dispatch, GPS Navigation.  You can add more then one program by selecting add new program via the web page.
Download the file and place it in the BlankIT directory.  “C:\program files\BlankIT\ “
The BlankIT program will read the file once the computer has been re-booted.

How do I exclude a COM Port from BlankIT as it is a Modem / GPS?

NOTE: Make sure that the vehicle is on a flat surface and has chocks under the tires, as to run this test you will have to have the vehicle started and the hand brake off.

  1. Go to Start > Programs > Blank.IT > PortAnalyzer
  2. This will run the following application to see what port the BlankIT cable has been connected on.
  3. Select Start to initiate the program.

NOTE: This program will have to be run twice if the modem has not been used at all.

How do I test to see if the cable is connected?

The BlankIT cable can be tested by using the ComCon program that was installed with the BlankIT installation.  Go to the Start/Programs/BlankIT/ and run the ComCon program.  This will test each Com Port and report back as to what ports are replying to it.

BlankIT doesn't work what can I check?

Check that the cable is plugged into the docking station / computer.
Check that the fuse on the cable has not blown.
Check that the program has been activated.
If you have a docking station check that is has power supplied from the vehicle.
Check that you downloaded the BIN file.

My computer is removed from the car mount and when I connect a device to the Com Port the unit Blanks out what causes this?

Your BIN file was set to either Auto Port Scan and you have not exempted the Com port you are trying to use.  Or you have manually set the Com Port to the port you are trying to use.

I have Active Sync running how can I assign it to a different COM Port or use the USB Port?
