Blank-IT Release History
3.2.2 (incorporating 3.2.0 and 3.2.1) - August 2011
- Added a new option to the motion sensor configuration tab in the administration window: ‘Automatically scan other ports if no device is found on the specified port’.
- If not ticked, Blank-IT functions just like it did in the previous version. This is the default option.
- If ticked – when Blank-IT searches for a signal from the motion sensor device, it will first look at the specified port, as usual. However, if no device is found on the specified port, Blank-IT will enter scanning mode, and periodically search all ports on the system until a Blank-IT device is found. Once a Blank-IT device is found, it will revert to its normal mode of operation on that device. If the device is subsequently removed, Blank-IT will go back to scanning mode.
- While this auto-scanning mode is more convenient, it is only recommended for use when the administrator is unable to actually specify the required port. There are a number of overheads associated with scanning that, while usually insignificant, are still undesirable. It is strongly recommended that administrators manually specify the port if they are able to.
- Fixed a typographic error in the end user license agreement.
- Reduced the amount of unnecessary log messages written to the log file. These log messages are still written to the standard debug output channel.
3.2.1
- Added a new ‘Export configuration’ button to the administration window.
- When clicked, allows the administrator to choose an output directory. A set of encrypted configuration files will be written to the chosen directory. These configuration files represent the current state of the Blank-IT configuration, and can be applied to other Blank-IT installs by dropping them into the configuration directory.
- Changed the configuration file update system so that configuration files can be dropped into the Blank-IT directory while Blank-IT is running. Any changes will be applied next time Blank-IT runs.
3.2.0
- Added a new ‘Show system tray icon’ option to the ‘display settings’ section of the application configuration tab in the administration window:
- If ticked, Blank-IT functions just like it did in the previous version. This is the default option.
- If not ticked, Blank-IT no longer displays an icon in the system tray. This means that Blank-IT will be essentially undetectable to the end user (with the exception of a process name in Task Manager).
- Added a new global hotkey (F10). Pressing this key while Blank-IT is hidden and the system tray icon is hidden will temporarily show the system tray icon for 5 seconds before hiding it again. This allows an administrator the opportunity to open the admin window, or allows a power-user to view the status of Blank-IT, etc.
- Fixed an issue that theoretically allowed a user to delete Blank-IT configuration files while Blank-IT was running.
- Fixed an issue that was causing Blank-IT to crash when performing a cable port scan if a certain type of modem was plugged in.
3.1.1 - September 2010
- Improved the screen blanking process to keep active nominated programs "on top".
- Added a 'start minimized' setting. When set, this will ensure that the Blank-IT window is initially minimized when Blank-IT loads.
- Added display of version number on main Blank-IT window.
3.1 - August 2010

- Improved the restoration of nominated programs, so that a currently minimized program will be automatically restored.
- Improved the launching of nominated programs, so that nominated programs are always launched with the correct working directory.
- Improved inbuilt protection of setting files.
- Improved user interface – better window positioning, improved feedback.
- Fixed a bug on 64-bit Windows that sometimes caused Blank-IT to launch new instances of nominated programs, rather than restoring existing instances.
- Improved functionality regarding recovery from hibernation or standby mode.
3.0.1

- Changed error logging – logs now stored in the same location as configuration files.
- Improved the handling of invalid configuration files.
- Improved the handling of invalid nominated programs.
3.0.0

About Blank-IT
Blank-IT was developed in Australia specifically to meet legislation regulating the installation of in-vehicle computers - legislation that has been replicated or is being introduced throughout much of the United States, Europe and other regions.
All relevant regulatory Australian bodies have agreed that where a computer is correctly fitted to a vehicle Blank-IT will enable in-vehicle computer installations to be compliant.
