Why Blank-IT?

Providing mobile workforces with access to complementary technologies like GPS and wireless broadband delivers 'real-time' efficiencies and a competitive edge for today's businesses.
The installation of laptops in vehicles is therefore becoming increasingly common, however, the Australian Vehicle Standards Rules state that:
- Computer screens must not be visible to the driver when the vehicle is in motion except to display "allowable programs" and;
- An authorised Inspection Engineer must certify that all vehicle laptop installations comply with this requirement.
Before Blank-IT there was no way of meeting these Rules.
The Blank-IT Solution
Blank-IT's simple and inexpensive technology solves the problem by blanking the laptop screen when the vehicle is in motion, or only displaying allowable programs, defined as "aids to navigation".
"Aids to navigation" include such programs as GPS based navigation, reversing camera displays and dispatch systems.
Blank-IT was developed in Australia specifically to meet the legislation regulating the installation of in-vehicle computers, and all relevant regulatory bodies have agreed that where a computer is correctly fitted to a vehicle, Blank-IT will enable in-vehicle computer installations to be compliant.
What Does Blank-IT Do?
- Consisting of a Windows based application and a C-Tick certified proprietary cable, Blank-IT suits any type of vehicle, brand of notebook computer or mounting system.
- Blank-IT starts up automatically when the computer is turned on and is activated when it detects that the vehicle is in motion.
- Detection of vehicle motion either by GPS motion sensor or via handbrake circuit of the vehicle.
- When activayed, Blank-IT immediately determines which, if any, computer programs should be allowed.
- If there are no allowable programs, the 'blanking' screen is presented. If there are allowable programs, the driver can toggle between these via a simple one touch button on the screen.
- Where a computer is mounted on a 'swing away' bracket, Blank-IT can be designed to disengage when the screen is facing away from the driver so that a passenger can have full access while the vehicle is in motion.
How is Blank-IT installed??
Our installation team works closely with the client's IT department to determine:
- How best to roll out the new software, including physical installation and licensing requirements.
- Configuration of allowable programs and any other specific requirements (for example, display of an OHSS message as the blanking screen).
Blank-IT is then typically installed by the installer of the in-board computers or a licensed auto-electrician (for retro-fits).
